Bats are carnivorous and eat nearly anything
small enough to fit inside their mouths. Nocturnal in nature,
bats are usually only found out of their lairs during the night. However,
there have been a few cases of starving bats making hunting trips
during the daylight hours. Most bats, save the gigantic Screeching
Horrors, are deceptively small. Many foolhardy adventurers have lost
their lives to the swift bites of a swarm of hungry bats.
Ratlings are huge rat-like
animals that crawl in
nearly every area of The Realm. Ratlings are
prized for their meat and form the economic
base for many in The Realm. Ratling farmers
make quite a healthy living by raising these
creatutes and selling meat, milk and cheese to
the many eateries in various towns. Despite
their practical uses in The Realm, they are quite
deadly in combat. A ratling's huge teeth can rip
an unsuspecting adventurer to shreds. Caution
must be used when stalking and harvesting wild
ratlings.
In the entire course of
magical history, there
has been no greater abomonation than that of
the zombie. Created by animating the bodies of
the recently deceased, zombies are compelled
to kill anyone (and everyone) they can find.
Those adventurers who are unfortunate enough
to be killed by a zombie will be turned into a
zombie themselves... a fate worse than death.
Imps came into being when the
ancient dark
mage Malos conjured a daemon and
possessed it's body in a vain attempt to gain
immortality. Elphame, the goddess of death,
took great exception to this and cursed Malos
to live out his days, not in the grand form of a
daemon, but as a much smaller and weaker
form. Malos, much weakened by this curse,
was exiled from The Realm and was not heard
from again. Legend has it that Malos found
love in this new form and conceived a family.
This family has grown over the thousands of
years into the large populous of Imps that we
know today. Imps have a boiling hatred for
man-kind and are constantly making raids on
human cities. Imps are widely varied, much like
humans, from the simple warrior to the
powerful mage. Caution must be used when
dealing with these creatures.
